Student Review: Is Ironhack Miami Bootcamp Worth It?
Despite all of the advantages of Ironhack Miami bootcamps, one question remains: does graduating from the tech bootcamp help you find a job in the tech industry? We spoke with Ironhack alum Kassandra Uehling, who graduated from the full-time UX/UI Design program, about her experience breaking into the IT industry.
Kassandra Uehling worked in disability services for five years before taking the full-time UX/UI design bootcamp at Ironhack Miami from August to October 2021. Though Kassandra enjoyed working with people with disabilities, she felt emotionally exhausted and decided to move to Florida and get a fresh start.
Looking for a Fresh Start
Kassandra didn’t know what she wanted to do, but a friend informed her about coding bootcamps. She initially applied for the Data Analytics bootcamp at Ironhack.
During the admissions process, an Ironhack counselor told Kassandra about the different courses available at Ironhack Miami. Having learned more about the wide range of features of UX/UI Design, Kassandra realized this course is more suitable for her based on her previous experience and personality traits.
Ironhack Learning Experience
Kassandra describes her learning experience at Ironhack Miami as challenging but incredibly rewarding. “If I’d have known what I was getting into, I probably wouldn’t have done it out of fear, but I’m so glad I just pushed through and finished because my eyes are open all the way and I feel great,” she says.
Kassandra liked that her Ironhack teacher encouraged students to explore and find answers by themselves instead of giving them specific answers to their questions. “He was teaching us how to use our resources and think back on what we have learned. And just like that, a process of divergent thinking took place, and then divergent and convergent thinking with UX,” Kassandra adds.
From Direct Support Professional to UX Designer
Kassandra’s final project was selected as the best among her classmates, and at the end of her UX/UI Design bootcamp an Ironhack career coach recommended her to a hiring partner of Ironhack. After three successful interviews, Kassandra was hired as a UX Designer at EX3 Labs without applying for the job.
Advice for Prospecting Ironhack Miami Students
Kassandra’s advice to others who are considering enrolling in one of the Ironhack Miami bootcamps is this: “Don’t psych yourself out. The course is really challenging but incredibly rewarding. Finish the program, and then get the excitement from doing things. It’s totally worth it.”
